Held annually during the second week of February, this seven-day festival is renowned for showcasing Theyyam performances inspired by the Ramayana, one of India’s greatest epics.

Over 10 different Theyyams are performed during the festival, each representing characters from the Ramayana. Notable among them are Daivathar Theyyam (symbolizing Lord Rama), Bappuran Theyyam (Lord Hanuman), Angakkaran Theyyam (Lord Lakshmana), and Athiraalarvum Makkalum Theyyam (Goddess Sita along with her sons Lava and Kusha).
These performances are deeply revered, with villagers and devotees participating in large numbers.
The venue, Andalur Kavu, holds immense historical and spiritual significance. It is believed to have been established by Sage Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple complex comprises two parts — the Mele Kavu (Upper Shrine) and the Thazhe Kavu (Lower Shrine). This sacred space is one of the few in the Malabar region where the Yuddha Kanda (war episode) of the Ramayana is vividly brought to life through ritual and performance.
With its vibrant rituals, devotional atmosphere, and dramatic artistry, Andalur Kavu Theyyam stands as a compelling tribute to Kerala’s living traditions.
