Muzhappilangad Beach Kannur

Muzhappilangad Beach, located along the Malabar Coast in Kannur district, Kerala, is famed as India’s longest drive-in beach.

Stretching for about 4 kilometers, this stunning coastal destination offers a rare experience where visitors can drive vehicles right along the sandy shoreline, making it a unique attraction not just in Kerala, but across the country.

What sets Muzhappilangad apart is its firm, compact sand, which allows smooth driving for both cars and bikes. The beach is flanked by black rocks that protect it from the stronger currents of the Arabian Sea, creating a calm and safe swimming zone. This natural barrier also makes the beach a great spot for families, as the water is relatively shallow and safe for children to play in.

A drive along the shoreline, especially during sunset, is a surreal experience — the golden-orange sky reflected on the wet sand, cool sea breeze on your face, and waves lapping beside your vehicle create a magical atmosphere. Apart from the drive, the beach is ideal for leisurely walks, picnics, or simply relaxing under the shade of coconut palms. Adventure seekers can indulge in paragliding, parasailing, powerboating, and jet skiing, with several local operators offering water sports depending on the season. The beach is especially lively during the Muzhappilangad Beach Festival, held annually between March and April, which features cultural programs, food stalls, car stunts, and entertainment activities that attract tourists from across the state and beyond.

Photography enthusiasts are in for a treat as the beach offers captivating views of the Dharmadam Island, located a short distance offshore. At low tide, one can even wade through the waters to explore the island. Facilities at the beach include food stalls serving local Kerala delicacies, refreshments, and basic amenities like parking and washrooms. Though the beach has retained a rustic charm, recent developments have made it more accessible and visitor-friendly.
